An Oklahoma police chief was found dead in a Florida hotel and authorities arrested his best friend, one of his officers.

The Escambia County Sheriff’s Office reported that the body of Mannford police chief Lucky Miller, 44, was discovered in a hotel room on Penascola Beach during a training retreat.
The alleged suspect was 49-year-old Mannford officer, Michael Nealey who was said to be “the best of friends” with Miller.

“They were the best of friends on force and off,” Mannford mayor Tyler Buttram told The Washington Post. “Their families knew each other very well.”
Miller and Nealey reportedly hang out frequently when they weren’t working on cases.
According to Escambia County spokeswoman Sgt. Melony Peterson, the two officers were attending a conference in town.
The sheriff’s spokesperson Amber Southard told CNN that deputies responded to a call about a fight on Sunday night and found the victim’s body in the men’s hotel room.
The details regarding the cause of the fight and the actual cause of death are not yet released by the officials.
Nealey was arrested on charges of homicide and was booked into the Escambia County Jail on Monday where he is to await his court appearance scheduled on Dec. 5, ABC News reported.
Miller had been a police chief since 2007 and left behind a wife and three children.
Meanwhile, Mannford town administrator Gerald Haury declared Officer Jerry Ridley as interim police chief.
