A 17-year-old Florida boy, accused of killing his younger brother and stabbing his father, was located and taken into custody after he jumped in front of a moving vehicle. The incident took place Thursday (May 7).

The teenager, identified as Daniel Weisberger, was located after a day-long search not too far away from the crime scene.

Monroe County Sheriff’s Office had tweeted a lookout notice for Weisberger after he stabbed and killed his 14-year-old brother before turning the knife on his father and wounding him.

On Thursday morning, the sheriff's office, after receiving a report of a stabbing from a neighbor of the victims, dispatched deputies to a home at the Executive Bay Club townhomes near Mile Marker 87.2 in Islamorada.

The father, identified as 43-year-old Ariel Jacob Poholek, bleeding with the stab wounds walked up to his neighbor and informed that Weisberger had stabbed his younger brother multiple times including in the neck.

Weisberger had already left the scene before the police arrived. Poholek who suffered from serious stab injuries was later airlifted to Ryder Trauma Center in Miami.

The National Marine Fisheries Service, where Poholek worked, said, “We are deeply saddened by this unexpected tragedy. Our thoughts are with Ariel and his family, and we ask for privacy for him during this very difficult time.”

Sheriff’s spokesman Adam Linhardt said in an email that the motive behind the slaying was unclear. The name of the deceased was not revealed.

Linhardt added that a number of agencies, including Miami-Dade police, had assisted in the day-long search for Weisberger that was spread across counties as he was considered armed and dangerous.

According to John Jankowski, who was driving down U.S. 1 near Founders Park when Weisberger jumped in front of his car said that it “absolutely” looked intentional.

“I seen the man run out from that side of the road across the southbound lane into the northbound lane, and ran right into the side of the truck is what it appeared to me,” he told local media.

Weisberger was taken to a Miami hospital with serious injuries that he suffered from the accident. He will face charges once he is discharged from the hospital.

Monroe County Sheriff Rick Ramsay called the fatal stabbing a “heinous crime.”
