A 19-year-old woman had a fatal fall from the sixth floor of a Daytona Beach, Florida, hotel Tuesday following an argument with her boyfriend, who unsuccessfully tried to pull her to safety.

The woman, identified Wednesday as Alexis Carroll, of Jacksonville, was first seen falling to her death by a Volusia County Beach Safety Ocean Rescue officer who was patrolling the beach behind the Holiday Inn Resort Daytona Beach Oceanfront. According to Daytona police, the officer immediately ran to the area where he witnessed the woman falling and started examining her. He did not detect a pulse on her, the incident report said.

Guests staying in room 601 said they heard a disturbance coming from room 602, where Carroll and her boyfriend, identified as Tyler Bell, were staying. A few witnesses said they saw the woman having a heated argument with her boyfriend while hanging over her balcony’s railing in a squatted position. She was overheard saying, “Tell me I won’t!"

By the time Bell was able to coax her to come back to the room, one of the witnesses had already called the front desk of the hotel requesting security. After security checked out the reported commotion and left, Carroll went back to the balcony and began shouting at the people staying next door for alerting the hotel staff.

Stanley Crockett, of Lawrenceville, Georgia, who was staying in the room below Carroll, heard the latter’s verbal abuse and dialed the front desk. After finding out what Crockett had done, Carroll started yelling at his date – an off-duty law enforcement officer from Georgia – and ran down to confront her. She spat and struck Crockett’s date before Bell intervened and took her back to her room.

Moments after Carroll returned to her room, her boyfriend could be heard screaming “Don’t do that!” She was reportedly seen leaning over the balcony multiple times before she took “a running start” and dove off the edge of her balcony.

“I saw a body tumbling,” Crockett said, the Daytona Beach News-Journal reported. Other witnesses said that prior to her fall, they heard the sounds of glass breaking and her screaming.

According to the surveillance footage from inside the hotel provided to the police, Bell was seen trying to pull the teenager back to safety at least five times before she fell to her death. After analyzing the video evidence, police said they did not suspect any foul play on Carroll's boyfriend’s part. However, they refused to confirm whether the incident was a suicide.

A GoFundMe page was set up by Carroll’s aunt to cover her burial expenses. “I am trying to raise money for the family to be able to transport her body back to Jacksonville FL where she is from and to help with funeral expenses and any other expenses the family has to endure during this hard time. She was a beautiful 19-year-old who was taken too soon from us. Anything helps. God bless,” the page said.
