A former NFL player has been connected to the death of a child, alongside his girlfriend.

Cierre Wood, 28, who played college football at Notre Dame as a running back and was also a member of practice squads with the Houston Texans, New England Patriots, Seattle Seahawks, and Buffalo Bills, was arrested after the death of his girlfriend Amy Taylor's 5-year-old daughter, reports the New York Post.

Wood and Taylor face child abuse charges after the girl died at a Las Vegas hospital on Tuesday night, according to ABC57. Wood and Taylor, 25, were held on $5,000 bond, according to Clark County jail records.

An autopsy is being conducted on the child. Wood is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday.

Wood most recently played in the Canadian Football League. The 5-foot-11 running back initially signed with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, though he was traded to the Montreal Alouettes less than two months later.
