Emilia Clarke is no stranger to getting naked as Daenerys Targaryen on HBO’s “Game of Thrones.” Episode 4 of Season 6 showed Daenerys walking into fire and coming out unscathed and naked. Some viewers might assume that a body double was used for the scene, but Clarke wants everyone to know it was her.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Clarke revealed that no one filled in for her in the final scene of episode 4. The last time she removed her clothes on the show was Season 3, and in Sunday’s episode it happened again after she walked out of the flames as the new leader of the Dothraki.

“That was a while ago. It’s now season 6. But this is all me, all proud, all strong. I’m just feeling genuinely happy I said ‘Yes.’ That ain’t no body double!” Clarke revealed.

Rumors circulated in September 2015 that Clarke didn’t like doing nude scenes. Clarke then took to Instagram to clarify that she was fine with doing them if they developed her character.

“Sometimes explicit scenes are required and make sense for the characters/story, as they do in Westeros. If it’s gratuitous for gratuitous sake, then I will discuss with a director on how to make it more subtle. In either case, like a good Mother of Dragons, I’m always in control,” Clarke said in the post.

In episode 4, Daenerys made a power move both to escape Dothraki custody and to expand her army. Daenerys used her fireproof ability to torch her captors and prove to the Dothraki that she’s the one ruling over them and not a Khal. She walked out of the flames unscathed and naked, which lead to all the Dothraki bowing before her.

A similar Daenerys scene came at the end of Season 1. She walked into a fire with her three dragon eggs. She then came out of the flames naked, unharmed and with three baby dragons resting on her. Clarke said filming the Season 6 scene was better than doing the one from the first season thanks to special effects and not having to go out on a cliff.

While Clarke chose not to use a body double, one was used in a big nude scene from Season 5. In the Season 5 finale, a body double was used for Lena Headey during Cersei Lannister’s walk of shame. According to an Entertainment Weekly report in June, actress Rebecca Van Cleave was the body double shown on screen walking naked through the streets of King’s Landing. Headey chose to use a body double “for several reasons,” one of which was to focus on her character’s emotions. During the scene, Headey’s face was put on Van Cleave’s body via special effects as she made her walk.

“Game of Thrones” Season 6 airs Sundays on HBO at 9 p.m. EDT.
