“General Hospital” has been filled with shocking surprises. Unfortunately, for fans of the ABC soap opera, new episodes won’t be airing on Friday, April 24. Instead, fans will be able to watch an encore presentation of an earlier episode.

Viewers, who tune in to ABC during the regular “GH” time slot, will get another look at the special episode, which explored what Sonny’s (Maurice Benard) life would have been like if he chose another path.

In Port Charles, Sonny is a successful, respected, and feared mobster. However, the episode explored an alternative universe in which Sonny chose a legitimate career rather than a life of crime.

In the special episode, fans learned that Sonny became a police officer while his son, Dante (Dominic Zamprogna,) turned to a life of crime.

Sonny’s alternative universe also shook up the relationships of the resident. Sam (Kelly Monaco) was married to Dante, and Jason (Steve Burton) was in a relationship with Ava (Maura West).

It also revealed that Ava and Julian (William deVry) were running the mob in Port Charles and had high hopes for Dante in their illegal businesses. The episode went on to explore the strain Sonny and Dante’s different careers put on their relationship.

Viewers are aware that the “General Hospital” showrunners have been doing their best to preserve new episodes since the production of the soap opera was shut down due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The network has been airing new episodes Monday through Thursday and has dedicated Fridays to flashback episodes. Each Friday, an encore presentation of episodes from various points in time are aired.

While viewers aren’t getting their normal five new episodes a week, the showrunners are doing what they can to get fans their “GH” fix.

“General Hospital” is expected to resume airing new episodes on Monday, April 27 at 3 p.m. EDT on ABC.
