General Motors (GM) announced Tuesday its plans to allow customers to order their daily coffee from Starbucks all while remaining in the driver's seat of their vehicles. The feature will be made available through a simple tap of the button on a GM car's dashboard, which the car retailer believes will allow for a smoother and safer commute for drivers.

Technological advances have increasingly been coming to cars, with GM's Marketplace being no exception to this. Marketplace will serve as the automotive industry's first-ever in-car on-demand platform as it will allow drivers to make reservations and order from places like Starbucks while on the go.

"Our integration with GM's Marketplace provides our Starbucks Rewards customers with an additional opportunity to order their favorite Starbucks beverages while on the go," a Starbucks press representative. said Tuesday in a statement issued to International Business Times. "Our feature will be available early next year."

Starbucks customers that are members of its rewards program would also be able to receive points towards free food and drink by placing orders ahead through the Marketplace.

Starbucks isn't the only big-name company that will be featured in GM's Marketplace. Dunkin Donuts, Applebee's, TGI Fridays and IHOP are set to be featured alongside a list of other food options. Drivers will also have access to Priceline, ExxonMobil and OnStar, among other companies.

"The average American spends 46 minutes per day on the road driving. Leveraging connectivity and our unique data capabilities, we have an opportunity to make every trip more productive and give our customers time back," Santiago Chamorro, GM's vice president for Global Connected Customer Experience, said Tuesday in a news advisory. "Marketplace is the first of a suite of new personalization features that we will roll out over the next 12 to 18 months to nearly four million U.S. drivers."

"Marketplace gives merchants the ability to more safely engage with drivers and passengers in a meaningful way that provides true value for our customers," Chamorro added.

The Marketplace feature will be made available to all eligible 2017 or 2018 models of Buick, GMC, Chevrolet and Cadillac.
