Girlboss” star Britt Robertson recently opened up about the upcoming Netflix series, as well as her character, Sophia.

While speaking with TV Line, the actress expressed her excitement over her casting. Additionally, she’s also looking forward to telling a story that’s inspired by Sophia Amoruso, a young woman who founded the fashion brand Nasty Gal. When asked about her most favorite thing about the character, Robertson said that she loves the fact that Sophia faced several setbacks before she became successful.

“I love the setbacks and then overcoming those setbacks. You get a sense of what this girl is experiencing and why it’s so confusing and complicated. There’s a real playoff in the end. It’s why I fell in love with her,” she said.

“Girlboss” series creator Kay Cannon also confirmed that the series will take place in 2006 because this was the time Amoruso experienced a big turning point in her life. The young woman was simply reselling fashion pieces on eBay, but she was eventually kicked off the site. Amoruso later on launched her own website and is still make a huge sum of money off of it.

Meanwhile, Cannon also talked about one of the scenes in the series where Sophia launches her new website with the help of her friend, Annie (Ellie Reed). “It’s important to have those moments where you’re with your friend an you’re like, ‘It’s happening. Life is changing.’ The scene was so well-shot, and their acting was so great, and it feels so real and grounded. Sophia will never forget that, and then more things will happen, and hopefully she’ll have a moment where she won’t forget the next thing,” he said.

Netflix will stream all 13 episodes of “Girlboss” starting April 21.
