Marvel unveiled the first trailer for the "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3," the final installment in director James Gunn's franchise featuring intergalactic outcasts turned heroes. This time, the group bands together for one last mission.

The clip begins with the voice of Peter Quill/Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) saying, "We were gone for quite a while. But no matter what happens next, the galaxy still needs its guardians." It moves to show the five guardians alighting gallantly from their spacecraft in an earth-like territory with alien-looking inhabitants.

"We come in peace," Quill said before Drax, played by Dave Bautista, picked up a ball thrown by an alien child. Drax inadvertently throws the ball with extra strength and knocked down the alien child leading the rest of the aliens to attack the group with stones.

The trailer also shows the beginnings of Rocket Raccoon. One scene shows Mantis telling the animal hero, "Don't forget where we came from," which leads to flashbacks of a frightened raccoon being taken for scientific experiments.

In another scene, we also see Nebula, played by Karen Gillan, carrying Star-Lord's lifeless body.

Viewers also witness the entrance of supervillain Adam Warlock and the return of Zoe Saldaña's character, Gamora. Aside from Warlock, another villain will be introduced in the movie, High Evolutionary played by Chukwudi Iwuji.

Star-Lord is still obsessed with music as he was in the past two movies. This time, Gunn sets the movie to the tune of Spacehog's "In the Meantime" as the group's soundtrack on their final adventure.

Earlier, Gunn talked about how "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" is going to be the most emotional movie in the trilogy.

"The reason why I needed to finish this is because I love the character of Rocket more than any character I've ever dealt with before, and I needed to finish his story and that is what Volume 3 is about," Gunn told Collider in November. "I absolutely needed to do it, and I think we've done it in a spectacular way that I can't wait for people to see."

The film also stars Vin Diesel as Groot, Pom Klementieff as Mantis, Sean Gunn as Kraglin, and Elizabeth Debicki as Ayesha.

"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" will be released in theaters on May 5, 2023.
