Anson Mount's character Cullen Bohannan will face the backlash by Chinese railroad workers in "Hell on Wheels," Season 5, episode 4. Reuters/Mario Anzuoni

The Chinese workers will refuse to work in episode 4 of “Hell on Wheels,” Season 5. Cullen has to face a new challenge in building the railroad because of Chang, who will seek justice after the events of the previous episode.

[Spoiler Alert!]

A video posted on AMC’s YouTube channel shows a clip from the next episode of the TV series. It shows Cullen Bohannan (Anson Mount) sending the three former employees of the railroad away from the town. The three of them had killed a Chinese man at Chang’s (Byron Mann) establishment in the previous episode and were subsequently arrested.

Chang had demanded justice for the attack by the disgruntled former employees, who resented being fired and had taken their anger out on Chang. Cullen was unable to get a fair trial for the murder and decided that it would be best for the railroad if the three men were sent out of town.

Angry Chinese workers watch as Cullen sends the three arrested men off without punishment. He later asks the workers to get on the train and get to work, but the workers refuse to move, including the translator Tao (Tzi Ma). Just then Chang makes a speech in Chinese and implores the workers to sit down. All the workers, including Tao and Fong (Angela Zhou), refuse to work.

After facing multiple construction difficulties in building the railroad, Cullen will have to overcome the backlash of the workers in episode 4 of “Hell on Wheels” Season 5. The Chinese employees work for a substantially lesser wage, and hiring new workers would mean additional financial burden for a railroad company that is in a race against Thomas Durant (Colm Meaney).

AMC has also released a video clip from the previous episode that shows the attack on Chang. Three men had attempted to hang him, but he was saved in the nick of time by Cullen and Tao.

Cullen is still trying to find his wife and at the moment only has the railroad in his life. He will also have to face the Swede (Christopher Heyerdahl) eventually in “Hell on Wheels” Season 5.
