A man was fatally shot by Los Angeles police after an alleged stabbing spree in West Hollywood that injured three people Tuesday afternoon, authorities announced. Two of the victims were in critical condition and underwent surgery Tuesday night, while the other had injuries that were not life-threatening and was expected to be released from the hospital Wednesday.

Reports of a stabbing near Sunset Boulevard and Ivar Avenue prompted a response from police officers and firefighters. The assailant allegedly stabbed a man riding a bike, then ran off and entered a Jack in the Box restaurant where he stabbed two more people. Prior to entering the fast food restaurant, the suspect tried to enter a coffee shop but employees held the door against him, preventing him from getting in.

Officers shot the man, reportedly in his 30s, after unsuccessful attempts to subdue him with a stun gun. “I want to commend the LAPD Hollywood Division for their quick response, because it saved lives,” Los Angeles Councilman Mitch O’ Farrell said.

A witness took one video of a victim with bloody injuries in Jack in the Box, while another graphic video showed a man stabbing a woman across the street from the fast food restaurant, KTLA reported.

"Two [officers] just jet into the side door of the Jack in the Box, guns drawn, and we hear 'pop, pop, pop.’ We don't know what happened inside the Jack in the Box at all,” one witness told KTLA.

Sunset Boulevard is a popular and busy street with a history for “nightlight, counterculture, and sex, drugs and rock’n’roll,” the Wall Street Journal reported.

"As I was calling 911, cops were just swarming and coming out of nowhere," witness Rabisia Cook-Roberts sai of the stabbing attack. "I just made sure that guy who got stabbed was OK."
