  • First released in 2017 on the PS4, the post-apocalyptic "Horizon Zero Dawn" has sold more than 10 million copies
  •  Hermen Hulst, head of PlayStation Worldwide Studios, clarified that releasing this title to PC doesn't mean that every game will come to PC

“Horizon Zero Dawn” will make history on August 7 when it becomes the first major PlayStation exclusive game from a Sony-owned studio released for PC.

This news was confirmed by Sony Interactive Entertainment when it announced that “Horizon Zero Dawn Complete Edition” is indeed arriving on PC, said Video Games Chronicle. The PC version of Guerrilla Games’ open-world game will be available via Steam and the Epic Games Store.

Sony also released a PC features trailer to coincide with the launch date announcement, promising ultra-wide support, unlocked framerates, dynamic foliage, graphical customization, improved reflections, and a benchmarking tool.

Originally released in February 2017, the post-apocalyptic title has sold over 10 million copies. The plot of “Horizon Zero Dawn” follows Aloy, a hunter in a world overrun by machines, who sets out to uncover her past. The player uses ranged weapons, a spear, and stealth to combat mechanical creatures and other enemy forces. A skill tree provides the player with new abilities and bonuses.

This past March, Hermen Hulst, formerly the managing director of Guerrilla and now head of PlayStation Worldwide Studios, commented on Sony’s plans in the PC space. “To maybe put a few minds at ease, releasing one first-party AAA title to PC doesn’t necessarily mean that every game now will come to PC”, he said.

“In my mind, ‘Horizon Zero Dawn’ was just a great fit in this particular instance. We don’t have plans for day and date [PC releases], and we remain 100% committed to dedicated hardware,” Hulst said.

“Horizon Zero Dawn” is Guerrilla Games' first intellectual property since “Killzone” in 2004 and its first role-playing game. The game won numerous awards and sold over 10 million copies by February 2019, making it one of the best-selling PlayStation 4 games. An expansion, “The Frozen Wilds,” was released in November 2017.

Just last month, Guerrilla Games announced “Horizon Forbidden West” ahead of a planned 2021 release date on the PlayStation 5. PlayStation has been laying the groundwork for the PS5 game with the release of a “Horizon Zero Dawn” comic book series co-created by Anne Toole, one of the game’s writers.

Prior to the sequel’s announcement, Video Games Chronicle revealed that PlayStation and Guerrilla are planning a “Horizon Zero Dawn” trilogy.
