Stress comes in all shapes and sizes – even for the Jenners and Kardashians. Supermodel and TV personality Kendall Jenner reflected on 2016 in a post on her personal app over the weekend to discuss her anxiety and how it was a “huge hurdle” to deal with in the past year.

"I once had a really bad attack on a plane and just had to ride it out," she said. "I felt my heart beating a million miles an hour and I even went a little numb."

Anxiety disorders affect nearly 40 million adults – or 18 percent of the population – in the United States. Women are also twice as likely as men to be affected by Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Panic Disorder and specific phobias.

“People with an anxiety disorder are three to five times more likely to go to the doctor and six times more likely to be hospitalized for psychiatric disorders than those who do not suffer from anxiety disorders,” according to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America.

There are several reasons as to why someone could have an anxiety disorder, which ranges from hereditary factors to brain chemistry or life events. Anxiety in general is a normal occurrence for individuals, but when it interferes with everyday life then a person might have an anxiety disorder.

While anxiety disorders can disrupt a daily living routine, there are treatment options that most people can obtain through professional care. Since treatment options depend on how an individual responds and whether one has several other conditions, it is best to have treatment “specifically tailored.”

Some of these treatment options include therapy, residential treatment, medication and transcranial magnetic stimulation.

With different approaches to coping with panic attacks and anxiety, Jenner said that for her, she "learned that it's all mental, so I try to prevent anxiety attacks by bringing my mind somewhere else."
