Queen Elizabeth II is an inspiration to the other members of the royal family, particularly Kate Middleton, but she’s not the one who has inspired the Duchess of Cambridge’s outfits.

While speaking with Express, Natasha Henson, the editor of British Style Society, said that it is actually Sophie, Countess of Wessex, who has influenced Middleton’s fashion choices.

“The Countess of Wessex appears to be a lover of function and great design. Her off-duty looks are often practical depending on her particular duties… However, even the simplest of outfits such as tailored trousers and a comfortable top is complemented with stylish accessories and footwear every time,” she said.

Additionally, Prince Edward’s wife is not afraid to repeat her clothing in public, and this suggests that she’s confident both in her style and choices. Color and print are other elements that the female royal doesn’t shy away from, which suggests that she has a fun and relaxed vibe.

The Duchess of Cambridge is also known for repeating her outfits. For instance, the mom of three wore a red coat dress with gold buttons during her official trip to New Zealand with Prince William in 2014. Five years later, she wore the same dress at the Commonwealth Day Service.

Middleton was also photographed in her Alexander McQueen green and blue topper with a tartan skirt in November 2012. One month later, she wore the exact same outfit on Christmas Day. And earlier this year, she wore the same dress to the opening of the V&A Dundee in Scotland.

Other than repeating her clothes, Middleton has also followed in Sophie’s footsteps of wearing pieces from Emilia Wickstead’s collection.

“In recent years, they have tailored this look to suit royal duties but still wear relatable staples such as the sold-out Zara dress Kate wore to a charity polo game. Each still pays homage to their personality traits in both on and off-duty looks much like the Countess of Wessex and complements each look with stunning accessories,” she said.
