How Prince Harry’s Birth Influenced Prince Charles’ Affair During Princess Diana Marriage

The world was shocked when Prince Charles and Princess Diana announced their separation but it turns, out the Princess of Wales reportedly knew her marriage was over the moment Prince Harry was born.

Following their separation, Diana revealed Charles had an affair with Camilla Bowles Parker during their marriage. Years after her death, Diana’s former butler Paul Burrell revealed Harry’s birth gave Charles the opportunity to pursue a romance with Camilla.

In the Channel 4 Documentary “Princess Diana’s ‘Wicked’ Stepmother” the Princess of Wales’ the former palace employee revealed eventually quickly realized that the arrival of Prince Harry meant the end of her marriage to Charles.

“I could see the cracks in the marriage between Charles and Diana getting wider and wider, Diana confided in me that on the night Harry was born, she cried herself to sleep,” he said.

“She says I knew my marriage was over and the Prince told the Princess that his duty was now done, he had provided the country with an heir and a spare and he could now resume his relationship with Ms. Parker Bowles,” Butler explained.

As Charles kept his affair hidden from the press, he and Diana struggled to keep their disdain for one another from the cameras. During their trip to South Korea in 1992, it became clear the two were no longer in love.

“She was just bitterly unhappy, she was disappointed in her marriage as was Charles it was a car crash from the very beginning,” royal biographer Penny Junor said.

Prince Charles finalized his divorce with Princess Diana in 1996, he went on to marry Camilla in 2005.
