Princess Diana reportedly passed her first big test shortly after joining the royal family.

Years ago, she went on a tour with Prince Charles and the crowds raved at the sight of the late royal. However, the future King didn’t receive the same reaction, and this made him feel envious of his then-wife.

In the book “Diana: Her True Story,” royal author Andrew Morton said that royal fans made sure to let Princess Diana and Prince Charles know that the former was the star of the show.

“Charles was left apologizing for not having enough wives to go around. If he took one side of the street during a walkabout the crowd collectively groaned, it was his wife they had come to see. I seem to do nothing but collect flowers these days. I know my role,’” Morton said.

Lady Elizabeth Anson, Queen Elizabeth II’s cousin, also said a similar thing. According to her, it didn’t take the future King to realize just how fond the public was of Princess Diana.

Diana sort of metamorphosed into a very, very elegant blonde beauty. They did a visit to Wales which was the beginning of, for Prince Charles, realizing, ‘They’ve come out to see my wife, they haven’t come out to see me,’” she said.

Prince Charles and Princess Diana tied the knot in 1981 after dating each other for just a few months. During their marriage, the couple struggled because they didn’t know much about each other.

Princess Diana previously complained about Prince Charles ignoring her during her outbursts. Prince Charles, on the other hand, admitted to not knowing what to do whenever his ex-wife would have a breakdown.

Shortly after they tied the knot, the couple agreed to have a trial separation in 1992. But this trial ended up in an actual divorce four years later. One year after Prince Charles and Princess Diana called it quits, the latter died in a fatal car crash in Paris.
