Prince Charles is reportedly affectionate towards Kate Middleton because she loves the countryside just like Prince William.

When Princess Diana was still alive, she didn’t necessarily enjoy spending time in Balmoral with the future King and the royal family. Prince Charles, on the other hand, always had a blast whenever he’s in Queen Elizabeth II’s vacation home.

Several years after they divorced, Prince William tied the knot with the Duchess of Cambridge. And the Prince of Wales couldn’t be more pleased with the fact that the royal couple is on the same page when it comes to some of their biggest interests.

In the book “William’s Princess,” royal author Robert Jobson said that Prince Charles saw Balmoral as the place where he could truly be himself. During his time there, he is able to act like a normal person and not as an heir to the throne.

“Perhaps part of Charles’ affection for Kate stemmed from his recognition that in her, William had found somebody who could happily share the remote Aberdeenshire landscapes that he loved, somebody who would walk by his side as far as he wanted and curl up in front of a roaring fire at the end of the day,” he said.

Prince Charles and Her Majesty also gifted the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge a Highland home, which was a significant move according to Jobson. Even though it was the Queen who forked out the bill for the lavish home, the monarch wouldn’t have made the decision to give the royal couple a property if it was not for Prince Charles.

“Work began on the £80,000 facelift for a beautiful, if faded, 120-year-old cottage hidden away in a secluded corner of the Queen’s estate and just a short stroll away from Charles’ own Aberdeenshire retreat of Birkhal – a place much loved by both Charles and Camilla and where they intend to spend each New Year together following their marriage,” he said.
