Prince Charles was desperate to be with Camilla Parker Bowles during his marriage with Princess Diana, but Queen Elizabeth wouldn’t allow her son to carry on an affair so close to his grandmother.

When Charles and Diana announced their separation int 1992, the Prince of Wales reportedly wanted to use the time away from his wife to romance Camilla. Although he intended to do so in Clarence house, Elizabeth would not allow her son to disturb the residence the Queen Mother called home.

According to “Rebel Prince: The Power, Passion and Defiance of Prince Charles,” Tom Bower stated Queen Elizabeth had “forbidden him to move from Kensington Palace into Clarence House.”

“The prospect of Charles entertaining Camilla in a palace shared with his grandmother, then aged 92, was offensive,” the biographer added.

Bower claims Charles was later “assigned instead to St James’s Palace, a cold, comfortless dwelling” due to Queen’s Elizabeth disapproval. However, according to the Netflix documentary “The Royal House of Windsor,” his grandmother wasn’t particularly critical of his affair with Camilla.

“The Queen Mother is relatively broad-minded. She didn’t mind Prince Charles having an affair with Camilla Parker Bowles, provided that this did not become a scandal,” royal writer Piers Brendon revealed.

Prince Charles and Princess Diana finalized their divorce in 1996. The Prince of Wales went on to marry Camilla in 2005, when she received the title, Duchess of Cornwall.
