The “Legacies” premiere got Hope out of Malivore, but there’s still a big problem: no one remembers her. It looks like Hope’s erasure is what will help bring Freya into the fold in Season 2.

Freya Mikaelson (Riley Voelkel) is Hope’s (Danielle Rose Russell) aunt. She’s a witch who helped raise Hope and taught her about her powers. Unlike Alaric (Matt Davis), she didn’t get a call from Hope before she sacrificed herself telling her to destroy all evidence that Hope existed. That means that Freya has evidence of Hope’s existence—even if she may not remember her.

“It’s not Hope who goes to New Orleans and brings Freya back to town,” showrunner Julie Plec revealed to Entertainment Weekly. “It is actually somebody else who tracks her down because this person has a lot of questions about the existence of a person named Hope who nobody seems to remember and yet is in all the photographs lining the walls of Rousseau’s.”

So who is trying to learn more about Hope? Could it be Landon (Aria Shahghsemi), who knows somewhere deep down that something is missing? Could it be Alaric, who has looked at Hope as sort of a third daughter for years now? Or could it be one of the twins, suddenly aware that someone very important is missing?

Plec is keeping her lips sealed, but she teased to TV Guide that there is an “interesting dynamic” between Freya and the mystery character.

Luckily, fans won’t have to wait too long to find out more. Freya returns in “Legacies” Season 2, episode 6, which should air in November.

“Legacies” Season 2 airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. EDT on The CW.
