“Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist” doesn’t just feature familiar songs. The NBC musical comedy, about a girl who hears people sing about their inner feelings after a freak accident, is filled with familiar faces. The cast has been in some of your favorite projects, especially if you’re a musical fan.

Jane Levy stars as the titular Zoey, but many remember her from ABC’s “Suburgatory.” Since the show was canceled in 2014, she has starred in a string of movies, including director Fede Alvarez’s “Don't Breathe.” Recently, she has returned to TV with roles in “Castle Rock” and “What/If.”

Skylar Astin plays Zoey’s love interest, Max. However, audiences are likely to remember him from his role as Jesse in the “Pitch Perfect” films or a Greg in “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” Season 4, both of which let him show off his vocal skills. Astin has Broadway credits too, having originated the role of Georg in “Spring Awakening.”

Lauren Graham joins the cast as Zoey’s boss Joan, but she is best known as Lorelai Gilmore on “Gilmore Girls.” She spent seven seasons on the WB’s original show and returned for the Netflix revival in 2016. NBC viewers may also remember her playing Sarah Braverman on five seasons of “Parenthood.” She has appeared on Broadway in “Guys and Dolls” as Miss Adelaide.

Peter Gallagher plays Zoey’s sick father, Mitch, and audiences have definitely seen this cast member before. Gallagher played Sandy Cohen for four seasons on “The O.C.,” he recurred on “Law & Order: SVU” as Dep. Chief William Dodds and he currently plays Jane Fonda’s husband Nick on “Grace and Frankie.” That’s just TV. He’s been on the big screen in “American Beauty,” “Center Stage,” “While You Were Sleeping,” and “Burlesque,” just to name a few. Like his castmates, he has been on Broadway as well. He’s been in quite a few shows, but his Tony nomination came from “Long Day’s Journey Into Night.”

Newell focused on music for a while, releasing a debut album as well as singles with Clean Bandit and others, before he made his Broadway debut. In 2018, he starred as Asaka in the Broadway revival of “Once on This Island.”
