The most recent episode of Saturday Night Live, hosted by Sofia Vergara with musical guest One Direction, included sketches which poked fun at Mitt Romney and Zooey Deschanel, but the most topical sketch was a parody of the hugely successful franchise, The Hunger Games. The sketch, which lasted approximately 3 minutes, portrayed live news coverage of the Hunger Games, a competition that pits 24 teenagers against each other in a fight to the death, with Bill Hader and Fred Armisen reporting from the studio and Sophia Vergara covering the competition live from the field.

The series of books have been praised as well written and complex critiques of human nature, and the first film, which is still playing in theaters and has out-earned all its competition, has been met with mostly positive reviews. The story follows, Katniss, a teenage girl from a mining town who volunteers in the place of her younger sister. In the skit Katniss is interviewed by Sofia Vergara, and poisons her with some sour berries.

Sofia Vergara also interviews Peeta, from the same district as Katniss, who has camouflaged himself in order to hide, and dies from a leg wound during the skit. The skit also includes the booming cannon, which marks the death of a teenage contestant. In response Vergara shouts Hunger Games and shakes her chest for the camera.

What did you think of the sketch? Did it do a good job of spoofing the movie and books? Was it the funniest scene from last weekend's Saturday Night Live? Tell us in the comments.
