IOS 11’s release this week brings new features to iPhones and iPads, including a "Do Not Disturb" while driving setting, the Files app and other helpful settings that were not mentioned.

Apple taunted the update at its Worldwide Developers Conference and through its tips app. However, some settings for privacy and others that can help users with their everyday use of the device were not marketed. To update to iOS 11, users can go to Settings > General > Software Update.

Here are some useful iOS 11 features and how to set them up.

Control Center

The Control Center on iOS devices has been revamped. Pulling the screen up brings the entire Control Center to the iPhone’s screen, without the need to swipe to the right for more options. It also includes more options through 3D Touch, like brightness, volume and music. Users can also customize the settings they want to see on the screen. To add or edit options in the Control Center, users can open up Settings > Control Center > Customize Controls.

Siri

For those who like using Siri but don’t want to talk to her out loud, users can enable the Type to Siri setting instead. The feature allows users to type their questions instead of speaking. The setting can be enabled by going to Settings > General > Accessibility > Siri > Type to Siri. Next time users use Siri a keyboard will pop up instead of the speech visual.

Emergency SOS

IOS 11 comes with an Auto Call option that connects the user with emergency services if the Sleep/Wake/Power button is pressed quickly five times. To enable that option users can go to Settings > Emergency SOS.

iPhone Storage

IOS 11s now shows the amount of storage left on a device or iCloud in a colorful bar, like when connecting a device to iTunes. It also offers recommendations for users to efficiently save space, like automatically unloading unused apps when the user is low on storage, reviewing large Message attachments and deleting content in the Recently Deleted app. Users can go to Settings > General > iPhone Storage > Recommendations to manage their storage.

Do Not Disturb While Driving

IOS 11 comes with a Do Not Disturb while driving mode. The feature senses when the user is on the road and turns off notifications. Users can go to Settings > Do Not Disturb > Do Not Disturb While Driving. The setting can be activated manually, automatically or when connected to car Bluetooth.

Location Services

Previously, some developers offered only Always or Never as tracking options for location services. The new update gives users the option to track Always, Never or While Using the App, instead of developers having most control. Users can go to Settings > Privacy > Location Services to set the options on the apps.

Besides the listed features and settings, iOS 11 also comes with a screen recording option, supports augmented reality apps, Live Photo options and includes other design changes.
