Jake Gyllenhaal is finally addressing Taylor Swift's song "All Too Well," which some fans of the singer believe was about their short-lived relationship.

Swift's "All Too Well," which was first released on her "Red" album in 2012, recently got a 10-minute re-release, causing her history with Gyllenhaal to make headlines more than a decade after their whirlwind romance. Fans have long suspected that the song is about her brief relationship with the actor, but Swift herself has never confirmed it.

However, Gyllenhaal — who said he has not listened to the album — has a different take.

"It has nothing to do with me," he said of Swift's song in a new Esquire profile. "It's about her relationship with her fans. It is her expression. Artists tap into personal experiences for inspiration, and I don't begrudge anyone that."

While the months following Swift's rerecording of "Red" weren't difficult for him, Gyllenhaal acknowledged the social media attention he received following the song's release.

"At some point, I think it's important when supporters get unruly that we feel a responsibility to have them be civil and not allow for cyberbullying in one's name," he said. "That begs for a deeper philosophical question. Not about any individual, per se, but a conversation that allows us to examine how we can—or should, even—take responsibility for what we put into the world, our contributions into the world. How do we provoke a conversation?"

Gyllenhaal added that he believes the discussion everyone should be having is how to "be empowered and empower others while simultaneously putting empathy and civility into the dominant conversation."

The "Nightcrawler" actor, who is currently dating model Jeanne Cadieu, said he is "not unaware" of the interest in his personal life, which he described as "wonderful."

"I have a relationship that is truly wonderful, and I have a family I love so much. And this whole period of time has made me realize that," he added.

Swift and Gyllenhaal dated for three months in 2010 but parted ways before her 21st birthday. The lyrics of "All Too Well" appear to touch on their breakup as well as their nine-year age gap, fans suggested.

"You said if we had been closer in age maybe it would have been fine / And that made me want to die," Swift sings in her rerecorded version of "All Too Well."

"You, who charmed my dad with self-effacing jokes / Sipping coffee like you were on a late-night show / But then he watched me watch the front door all night, willing you to come / And he said, 'It's supposed to be fun turning 21,'" she adds.

Another lyric fans pointed to as evidence of a Gyllenhaal connection is: "And I, left my scarf there at your sister's house/And you've still got it in your drawer even now."

Back in 2010, the couple was spotted visiting Gorilla Coffee in Brooklyn, New York, which is located near Jake's sister Maggie Gyllenhaal's home.

Maggie later addressed the cryptic lyric during a 2017 appearance on "Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen," saying: "I am in the dark about the scarf. It's totally possible. I don't know. I have been asked this before."
