Jane the Virgin
Rafael Solano (Justin Baldoni), surrounded here by his baby mamas Jane (Gina Rodriguez) and Petra (Yael Grobglas), will have a good redemption arc in “Jane the Virgin” Season 4. The CW

Rafael Solano (Justin Baldoni) is at his worst this “Jane the Virgin” Season 4. Not only did he lose his hotel (and also all of his money), he also lost his morals when he toyed with a woman’s emotions just so he can get his wealth back.

What’s worse, he kept fighting with his baby mama Jane Villanueva (Gina Rodriguez), no matter how hard she tried to remind him of his goodness.

During an interview with TV Guide, Baldoni said that Rafael is undoubtedly “lost” right now. However, the good news is that he won’t stay a jerk forever.

“What I love about it is our creator is never going to abandon Rafael. He’s not going to stay a douche. I don’t believe that’s what they’re going for,” he said. “I believe that Rafael is a story of redemption as well. He’s a man that, thanks to Jane, is seeing sides of himself that he’s never had a chance to see. He’s getting a chance to grow and step out of that toxic behavior and to become a much more heart-centered man, and that’s really who he is.”

But because of his issues, Baldoni said now is not the right time for Rafael to get back together with Jane. Should he pursue a relationship with her again, it’ll likely end up badly.

“I think at this snapshot in his life, he’s not in a place to be a romantic partner to Jane, no. But again, this is a character that shows day in and day out that he can grow. I think she knows Rafael’s heart and he made the right decision, but right now he’s got to take care of himself and he’s got to recover from what he did,” he said.

But when the right time finally comes, Baldoni is hopeful Jane and Rafael will have their happily ever after. He told Hollywood Life: “There’s a chance they could be endgame. But I mean, I don’t know. We’ll see. There’s a few more years left.”

“But at the end of the day, I think the two could very well seem meant to be. They’ve had a lot of challenges, and we’ll see. If it’s what the fans want, then maybe it’s possible. I don’t know what the show creator has in mind,” he added.

“Jane the Virgin” Season 4 airs every Friday on The CW at 9 p.m. EDT.
