Jason Segel’s ex-girlfriend Alexis Mixter has assured the actor that they will remain friends despite their recent breakup after almost eight years of being together.

The 30-year-old artist took to Instagram Thursday to share a snap she took with the Hollywood actor and address their split publicly. From the start of her lengthy post, she made it clear that they will remain “best friends” moving forward.

“This is a photo of two best friends. This guy and I have shared so much life together. Changed each other at a soul deep level. All for the better. The depth of our bond was something I could never have anticipated. I’ve never spent so much time with another person, grown so much alongside someone else, laughed so much, cried so much, shared so much,” she wrote in the caption.

Mixter then admitted that it was actually odd for her to write about the end of their relationship on social media since their friendship is bound to continue despite their split. Nevertheless, she acknowledged that such a big change transpired between them, and it shifted their relationship from what it was before to what it is now — a friendship that is “so full of life.”

Even though she made the bold move of addressing their breakup on such a public platform, Mixter noted that she and the “How I Met Your Mother” actor are still very private individuals.

In the end, Mixter voiced her gratitude to the universe for bringing Segel to her life and to the actor for being such a great friend through the years. She also indicated that she would never stop cheering him on and loving him unconditionally moving forward.

“This post is a tribute to love and friendship and those relationships that make life worth living. Thank you J for being my best friend. ... I will never stop cheering you on with every cell of my body. I will never stop loving you unconditionally,” she wrote.

Segel and Mixter started dating back in December 2013. They kept their romantic relationship lowkey for years but eventually decided to make their public debut as a couple on the red carpet of a Sean Penn-hosted fundraiser in 2016, as per People.

Prior to Mixter, the “This Is 40” actor was in a short-lived relationship with “The Greatest Showman” actress Michelle Williams. The two started dating in 2012 and called it quits the following year, according to Us Weekly.
