Jennifer Garner has kept her skin youthful and radiant at 46 years old, so she looks great with or without makeup. But what exactly is her secret for amazing skin?

Garner recently opened up about her daily skincare routine during an interview with Marie Claire. The "Alias" alum revealed that whether or not she's busy, she never fails to remove all her makeup and wash her face.

To avoid "sallow" skin, Garner "swears by" Neutrogena's Hydroboost, which contains hyaluronic acid. The "Love, Simon" star insisted that the product "gives you a plump, bouncy, and dewy effect."

Garner also wears sunscreen daily, recommending the Ultra Sheer 100 SPF, which she said can also be used as a makeup base.

Another secret to her youthful skin is retinol, a vitamin usually found in food and dietary supplement pills. But in her case, she prefers slathering it on her skin.

“My biggest skincare struggle was definitely figuring out retinol," Garner revealed. "Being in my mid-40s, retinol really is the most important product for anti-aging. But I have sensitive skin, so everything people gave me kept turning my face red, itchy, and blotchy."

However, retinoids also have the side effect of peeling and dryness. These derivatives of Vitamin A exfoliate the top layer of the skin rapidly and promote collagen production in order to reduce the appearance of wrinkles. But this, in turn, causes skin cells to turn over at lightning speed.

In order to avoid the negative side effects of retinol, start using products with only a low concentration of the substance, recommends dermatologist Howard Sobel.

"Typically, one percent concentration is a safe dose to use. Use it primarily at night, as retinol can increase sun sensitivity and be sure to protect yourself with broad-spectrum SPF during the day," Sobel said.

Sobel also advised using a product in which retinol is combined with other ingredients that could enhance its positive effects and counteract any flareups, such as Vitamin B3 and Vitamin C.

Of course, just having a good skincare routine isn't enough to keep the skin youthful and glowing. Garner also makes sure to regularly work out, usually attending boxing sessions every week, and eat healthily.

Nutritionist Kelly LeVeque, who has also worked with Jessica Alba and Chelsea Handler, previously told Us Weekly that Garner eats healthy, balanced meals that always include protein, fiber, healthy fat and greens.

As a mom of three kids, Garner also makes sure to encourage her children, Violet, 13; Seraphina, 10; and Samuel, 7, to eat healthy meals and often recommends great recipes on her Instagram page.
