A lawsuit has been filed against Jennifer Lopez claiming that the idea for “World of Dance” was not hers or the network that aired the show.

Alvin Gray-El filed the lawsuit against Lopez, NBC, and choreographer Debbie Allen. Allen has no interests in the show, but according to Gray-El, she was the one that he told about his idea for the show.

The court documents filed, claim that Gray-El had an idea for a show in 2009 called “Let’s Start the Dance.” At that time, Gray-El reached out to Allen, as well as her production company, to see if she wanted to produce the show.

While Gray-El never heard back from Allen, he said he went ahead and registered the show with the U.S. Copyright Office. As “World of Dance” was being developed, Gray-El claims he contacted NBC to let them know about the copyright infringement. That was in 2017, and Gray-El never heard back from the network.

Gray-El is looking for $5 million in damages and $1.5 million in punitive damages. It is unclear how Lopez and NBC allegedly got the show idea from Allen as Gray-El claims.
