  • It is Biden's first visit to St. Croix as president
  • Critics slammed him for going on a tropical vacation when the country is hit by severe winter weather
  • 'He is too busy to visit the southern border," tweeted Rep. Jim Banks

President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill, along with their children and grandchildren, have headed to St. Croix to ring in the new year. The president and his family will welcome 2023 from the tropical climes of the Virgin Islands, a relief from the harsh winter weather people across states are witnessing.

The first couple flew to St. Croix, an island in the Caribbean Sea, on Tuesday, which marked Biden's first visit to the island as president. The location had been the family's preferred New Year holiday spot back in 2015 and 2016.

The timing of the recent trip has drawn severe criticism, with some people comparing the POTUS to Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Tx., who traveled to balmy Cancun while Texas was battling a winter storm and mass power outages last year.

"Remember when they dumped all over Ted Cruz for something he could do nothing about, when he went on vacation? It's Biden's turn," a Twitter user wrote.

"Enjoy St. Croix," Sen. Cruz tweeted.

"Biden pulling a Ted Cruz going on a Caribbean vacation while Americans freeze sleeping on the street," one user wrote.

Biden's fiercest critics are slamming him for embarking on a tropical vacation when the country was hit by ferocious winter conditions, inflation and the border crisis.

"But he is too busy to visit the southern border..." tweeted Rep. Jim Banks, R-In.

"Joe Biden hasn't visited the southern border since he took office. But at least he's been to Nantucket and St. Croix," the Twitter page for Republicans on the House Judiciary Committee commented.

"Joe Biden will travel 1,636 miles to vacation in the Virgin Islands, but won't travel 1,719 miles to see his border crisis," Congressman Lance Gooden, R-Texas, tweeted.

"While people freeze to death because of Joe Biden's energy policy and inflation he goes on vacation to St. Croix And you're paying for it!" tweeted another person.

The Bidens will return to Washington D.C on Jan. 2.
