Jim Carter as Pope Boniface
De Nogaret’s (Julian Ovenden) carefully laid plans are threatened when Pope Boniface unexpectedly arrives in Paris in Season 1, episode 2 of History’s “Knightfall.” History/Larry Horricks

Landry and Parcifal team up in the next installment of “Knightfall.”

According to the synopsis for Season 1, episode 2 of the History series, Landry (Tom Cullen) and Parcifal (Bobby Schofield) search for a killer. While the logline for the hour doesn’t specify who exactly they are looking for, Landry and Parcifal are likely hunting the person who killed the latter’s fiancée, Marie (Sai Bennett).

In the middle of the series premiere, Godfrey (Sam Hazeldine) went on a solo secret mission that ultimately ended his life. Godfrey was attacked by highwaymen on his way to his destination. But before Godfrey took his last breath, he managed to tell Parcifal — the famer who helped him took down the highwaymen — to get his sword back to Landry.

Despite Marie’s disapproval, Parsifal went to Paris and returned Godfrey’s sword to Landry. Landry then tasked Gawain (Pádraic Delaney) to bring Godfrey’s body back to the temple where he would be laid to rest. But when Parcifal arrived home to collect Godfrey’s corpse, he found the love of his life lifeless outside his house.

Since the people behind Marie’s death could be the same people who attacked Godfrey, it makes sense that Landry and Parcifal join forces to find the culprit.

Also in the next episode, Pope Boniface’s (Jim Carter) unexpected arrival in Paris threatens De Nogaret’s (Julian Ovenden) carefully laid plans. While De Nogaret’s ultimate objective is unclear, the trailer for the rest of the show’s freshman run reveals that De Nogaret wants the Pope dead.

“The Pope must be dealt with. We must recover the Holy Grail for ourselves,” says De Nogaret, who hires a masked assassin to kill the head of the Roman Catholic Church.

Elsewhere in the promo clip, De Nogaret appears to have found out the affair between Landry and Queen Joan (Olivia Ross). Although King Philip IV (Ed Stoppard) declares in the video that Landry is his closest friend, things between the two start to get bad when the King of France seemingly learns that his wife is sleeping with the Templar master.

“Knightfall” Season 1, episode 2, titled “Find Us the Grail,” airs on Wednesday, Dec. 13 at 10 p.m. EST on History. Watch the trailer for the episode below:
