Lady Gaga is ready to return to the silver screen as the singer has reportedly signed to star in director Ridley Scott’s next feature. The veteran filmmaker will have Lady Gaga portray Maurizio Gucci’s ex-wife Patrizia Reggiani in an upcoming true crime film.

Deadline broke the news that the Oscar-winning artist is rumored to be working on the film that will dramatize the marriage and the assassination of Maurizio, who was murdered in 1995 in his office. His ex-wife Reggiani was convicted of planning his murder by hiring a hitman and sentenced to 18 years in prison. The convicted ex was released in 2016. The trial garnered huge interest in the media, which earned Reggiani the nickname “Black Widow”.

The film’s script would be based on Sarah Gay Forden’s 2001 book “The House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour, and Greed”. The non-fictional book follows the account of the Gucci dynasty through the family’s trial and tribulations.

The singer-songwriter just came off of her award-winning work in “A Star is Born”, which she co-starred in with actor Bradley Cooper. Her performance won acclaim from the critics for her chemistry with Cooper and she also won an Academy Award for Best Original Song for her piece “Shallow” at the 2019 Oscars.

Gaga first debuted on the big screen with the 2013 exploitation film “Machete Kills”. It was in 2015 that she showed off her acting chops on TV during the fifth season of the horror anthology series “American Horror Story: Hotel”. The role earned her a Golden Globe for her performance as The Countess.

For Gaga, playing Reggiani shouldn’t be a daunting task for her stature. In her home country of Italy, Reggiani is considered a fashion icon similar to Gaga on a global scale. Even Gaga shares Italian roots with the former convict. It seems that the singer has a knack for playing murderous characters like the Countess and La Chameleon. So far no other details have been released regarding the film, including the title or whether Gaga would contribute to the music for the upcoming feature.
