The “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” Season 18 premiere thrust Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and the rest of the team back into a new case as they attempt to move on from Mike Dodds’ (Andy Carl) tragic death last season.

NBC has released the official synopsis for “Law & Order: SVU” Season 18, episode 2, titled “Making A Rapist." The title and episode plot appear to have been inspired by Netflix’s docuseries about Steven Avery, “Making A Murderer.” The team will have to track down a man who was exonerated nearly two decades after being wrongfully convicted of rape when he commits a crime right after being freed. Fin (Ice T) will take the lead in their latest case, since he was the one who put him in prison 16 years ago. Check out the full summary below:

"After 16 years in prison, a convicted rapist (guest star Henry Thomas) is exonerated due to newly tested DNA evidence. But only a day later, Fin (Ice T) is called to the scene of a shocking crime and must once again investigate the whereabouts of the man he arrested years ago,” read the synopsis (via IBTimes UK).

Aside from the new case, another thing to look forward to in “Law & Order: SVU” Season 18, episode 2 is the special guest appearance of United States Vice President Joe Biden. He is expected to play himself on the show, and his appearance will likely be connected to the issue of delays in processing rape kits.

Hargitay previously teased Biden’s guest appearance on the NBC series on Twitter earlier this year. In July, she shared a photo taken from the set of “Law & Order: SVU,” captioning the pic: “#SharedVision #StrongerTogether @VP.”

Find out what happens to Fin and Olivia when “Law & Order: SVU” Season 18, episode 2 airs on Wednesday, Sept. 28 at 9 p.m. ET on NBC. Meanwhile, check out the trailer of the upcoming episode of “Law & Order: SVU” below!
