Chad Daybell’s trial date has been set for January 2021 after pleading not guilty to four felony charges following the death of his wife Lori Vallow’s children, Tylee Ryan and Joshua “JJ” Vallow.

On Friday, Daybell appeared via Zoom before District Court Judge Steven Boyce in Idaho. East Idaho News reports that Daybell faces two felony counts of destruction, alteration or concealment of evidence, and two felony counts of conspiracy to commit destruction, alteration or concealment of evidence.

After Daybell’s attorney submitted the plea the judge explained the terms of the matter. “By pleading not guilty you will maintain all your constitutional rights in this case,” Boyce said. “Among those rights, you have the right to be presumed innocent. The presumption of innocence is a real and important right that lies at the foundation of our criminal justice system.”

A pretrial conference is scheduled to take place on Dec. 10, however, the jury trial in Fremont County won’t begin until Jan. 11. The trial is expected to wrap up by Jan. 29.

Daybell’s not guilty plea comes after police found the remains of Vallow's 17-year-old daughter and 7-year-old son buried on his Idaho property in June.

Meanwhile, Vallow faces several charges in connection to her children's deaths including two counts of conspiracy to commit alteration, destruction, or concealment of evidence. She is expected to be arraigned on Sept. 10.

The outlet previously reported that Daybell and Vallow are also under investigation for “conspiracy, attempted murder and/or murder” in the death of his first wife, Tammy, who was found dead in October 2019, a few weeks before the couple married. Although an obituary stated that Tammy died of natural causes, authorities have exhumed her remains to perform an autopsy, according to USA Today.

Daybell and Vallow are both currently in jail and are being held on a $1 million bond.
