"Dancing With The Stars" alum Maksim Chmerkovskiy and his wife Peta Murgatroyd hint they are planning to provide help for Ukrainian refugees amid the Russian invasion.

Peta shared a heartwarming photo on Instagram on Saturday after her husband escaped from the war-torn nation and returned to the U.S.

The snap showed the couple embracing each other tightly. The 42-year-old Ukrainian-born choreographer's eyes were closed as if he was savoring the moment. Chmerkovskiy had earlier told his 1.2 million Instagram followers that he endured a distressing 23-hour train ride from Kyiv to Poland, along with several others who were trying to escape the military conflict.

"I never thought our family would be directly affected by this in our lifetime, I never thought what we are seeing on our TV's was a reality in 2022," Murgatroyd began her post. "I have never hugged him so tight. Shaking and forever grateful. Now it’s time to heal. We cannot go back to our normal. Our lives are forever changed. We have a new normal, and that’s ok."

"Although @maksimc made it home, this DOES NOT mean we aren't continuing our efforts to provide assistance to the Ukrainian refugees," she explained. "We have big plans in store and our sole focus is on this war. [heart emoji] A smaller plan is going up on my stories soon!"

Chmerkovskiy and his family moved to the U.S. in 1994. His younger brother Val, who also competes in the "DWTS," was also with him. Chmerkovskiy returned to Ukraine to be a judge on the dance reality competition "World Of Dance UA" prior to the invasion.

He documented his experiences when the Russian military began attacking his homeland.

Murgatroyd, on Saturday, also uploaded a photo of Chmerkovskiy cuddling his 5-year-old son, Shai, in bed.

"If there is one good thing to come of Putin's War (and yes I am specifying this as HIS war, because I know he doesn't represent the entire Russian nation as a whole)…The whole planet is against his evil and god willing he will be destroyed," she wrote.

Chmerkovskiy told viewers of "Good Morning America" on Friday that he used his social media page to show the world what is really happening in Ukraine.

"This was not me trying to publicize the situation," he told the outlet. "This was me trying to cry for help. I literally, I was just screaming out, 'This is what I just saw. I just want you to see it, whoever you are.'"
