• Kyle Eglington allegedly fled from a police vehicle after assaulting two cops
  • He had been remanded in custody on a robbery charge
  • Eglington had appeared in court on March 25

The police in the United Kingdom have launched a manhunt for a prisoner, who reportedly broke out of custody, wearing only his underwear and a pair of socks.

Kyle Eglington, 32, allegedly made a run for it after breaking out of a court prisoner transport vehicle in Hardy Road in the town of Poole at around 11.30 a.m. ET Saturday after assaulting two security officers, iTV reported.

The police have been conducting searches in the area with the help of the National Police Air Service helicopter and British Transport Police. Authorities said Eglington may have changed his physical appearance, and they were tendering a fresh public appeal for information, iTV reported.

Eglington had been remanded in custody after being charged with an offense of robbery in Bournemouth, and had appeared at Poole Magistrates’ Court on March 25. The escapee was described as a white male, who was five feet 11 inches tall, with dark brown hair and a beard, Shropshire Star reported.

The police have urged members of the public to report a man wearing "just his underwear and socks" or matching the description provided by the authorities, the outlet reported.

"I would like to reassure members of the public that we have a number of officers carrying out searches and other enquiries in a bid to locate Kyle Eglington as soon as possible and return him to lawful custody," Superintendent Heather Dixey of Dorset police told Shropshire Star. "I would urge anyone who has sees a man in the area in just his underwear and socks, or who matches the description given above and appears to be avoiding detection, to please report it to us."

Dixey said it didn't seem like the man was a threat to the general public.

"There is nothing at this time to suggest he poses a risk to the general public, however, we would urge people not to approach him and to please dial 999 immediately," Eglington said. "There will be an extensive police presence in the area as we carry out these enquiries and officers can be approached by members of the community with any concerns."
