An Indonesian man died Friday, days after his wife poured boiling water on him for secretly marrying another woman.

Police said 30-year-old Aminah found out about her husband’s secret marriage with their neighbor on July 13. In a fit of rage, she boiled water and splashed a bucket full of it on her sleeping husband. The man, identified as 28-year-old Bahtiar, was rushed to a local hospital. However, when there was no improvement in his condition, he was taken to a traditional healer for treatment. He succumbed to injuries six days later.

Confessing to the crime, Aminah said she was angry but did not intend to kill her husband.

“I didn’t think much about it at the time. I only felt anger and disappointment,” she said, adding that she had even “borrowed money from the woman to raise my three children.”

In a press conference, Police Commissioner Dicky Sondan said, "It is true that there has been a criminal act of domestic violence against Bahtiar committed by his wife Aminah. She was heartbroken that Bahtiar married another woman.”

“When the man was sleeping in their room, his wife boiled water in a pan and then transferred it into a bucket. She then went to the room and poured the hot water on her husband,” he said, adding that the man’s body was taken to his brother’s home for the funeral.

Meanwhile, the woman was charged under the Domestic Violence Protection Act and was likely to be charged with murder which carries a prison term of 15 years. There was, however, no information about Bahtiar’s marriage to the other woman.
