A 38-year-old man in India was electrocuted while trying to charge his phone in a waterlogged room. His wife and 10-year-old son also met their demise while trying to save him.

The incident took place Tuesday afternoon at a government housing complex in the Indian city of Kolkata, which was ravaged by heavy rainfalls at that time, reported The Times Of India.

The man, identified by police as Raja Das, just returned home when the tragedy struck. He worked as a driver. His house was waterlogged due to the heavy rains in the area. While trying to plug his cell phone into the switchboard, he got electrocuted.

On seeing her husband battling for life, his wife Paulomi rushed to help him. She inadvertently touched him in the process, following which she also suffered electrocution. Their elder son, 10-year-old Subho, tried to save his parents but suffered the same fate.

On seeing his parents and brother getting electrocuted, the youngest son of the family, 4-year-old Neel, screamed for help. He was on the same bed in the same room but managed to survive.

Neighbors heard the boy wailing and rushed into the family's home. It was then that they saw the three members of the family on the floor.

"On hearing his screams, we rushed to their room to find the trio lying on the floor. They were rushed to the Barrackpore BN Bose hospital where they were declared brought dead," Pratima Dey, a neighbor, told The Times Of India.

The power supply to the room was immediately suspended following the incident.

"All the rooms on the ground floor of the housing were waterlogged," another neighbor said.

Police suspect the deaths were caused by an electrical short circuit.

Last year, a woman died in the Russian city of Arkhangelsk after her iPhone, which was connected to its charger, fell into the bathtub she was in. She was later found unresponsive by her flatmate. According to reports, her flatmate shook and screamed at her, but she was pale and no longer breathing.
