A Vancouver man who was on a no-contact order with his girlfriend was accused of kidnapping the woman and trying to murder their 2-month-old daughter when the police traced him.

Aarondeep Johal, 32, from Ridgefield was out on bail in a pending domestic violence case when he allegedly kidnapped his 25-year-old girlfriend after she sought help at a convenience store in Vancouver on Sunday. Johal was also accused of assaulting her and attempting to kill their infant daughter at the woman's residence, The Columbian reported.

When the police responded to the woman's apartment, they saw her coming out of the building with blood on her head. The officers then entered the apartment and saw the suspect standing with his 2-month-old baby in one hand and a hammer in the other. He reportedly threatened to kill the baby with the hammer.

After the officers made him drop the hammer, Johal threatened to throw the infant off the balcony. But deputies managed to successfully block him from entering the balcony. Meanwhile, Johal placed the baby between his chest and a wall and began squeezing his infant daughter onto the wall until she went limp, police said, News Channel 3 reported.

The cops even tried using a stun gun on Johal, but it was ineffective. One of the officers then punched Johal in the face while the other officers grabbed his arms to release the infant from his hands. The mother and the infant were then taken to a hospital.

The police talked to the clerk at the store where the woman sought help in the wee hours of Sunday. He told the officers that the suspect chased the woman through the store and at one point, grabbed the phone from her and smashed it on the wall. Johal then reportedly dragged her out of the store and pushed her into a vehicle before driving away to the woman's apartment.

The accused had picked up his youngest baby from a relative who was watching the couple's children at around 2:45 a.m., the same night, according to the court affidavits.

Johal faces multiple charges including first-degree attempted murder, two counts of first-degree kidnapping, domestic violence assault, felony no-contact order violation and charges for resisting arrest. He appeared in Clark County Superior Court Monday and is being held on a $1 million bail.
