A 21-year-old man in India smothered his 16-year-old pregnant sister to death before dumping her body on a railway track to make it look like a suicide.

However, a witness alerted the police, who rushed to the scene to remove the body minutes before a train arrived, The Times of India reported.

The incident happened in the southern city of Bengaluru on Monday. The victim's brother and mother had not approved of her relationship with a boy, and when the minor girl became pregnant, the accused decided to take matters into his hands.

Considering it a matter of his honor, the man decided to murder the girl and dump her body on the railway track, about 50 meters from their shack. He smothered the 16-year-old to death when she was asleep.

However, his plans were thwarted after a resident of an apartment near the tracks spotted the man, and alerted the police.

Police official D.R. Siri Gowri told the news outlet the girl has been identified. "We identified the girl with locals’ help. Her mother and brother told us she left home at midnight to answer nature and never came back," said Gowri.

Further questioning revealed the brother was the accused. He confessed to the crime and an investigation was on to determine whether other people were involved in the crime. The body has been sent for post-mortem to determine if the girl had been sexually assaulted, media outlet the Deccan Herald reported.

In a similar incident, a man in India had chopped off his sister's husband's head because he did not approve of their marriage. On seeing his brother-in-law on the road, the accused chased him with an ax before catching up with him and chopping his head off. He then put the head in a sack and was on his way to the police station when local people noticed the bloodied ax and sack. They alerted the police who then apprehended him. On hearing the news, the 19-year-old sister of the accused committed suicide by hanging herself.
