“Hero” singer Mariah Carey was all set to wow audiences during the “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest” event held at Times Square in New York City on New Year’s Eve. Sadly, things did not go as planned. The stage’s technical set-up wasn’t managed properly, so Carey had a difficult time lip syncing to the three songs she was supposed to perform. In the end, she walked off the stage.

The fingers began pointing after the now infamous incident. Carey’s team blamed the production company responsible during the event, while Dick Clark Productions denied that the fault lies with them.

As for Carey herself, she’s not pointing any fingers. The singer told Entertainment Weekly that if Dick Clark himself had been alive, the mishap wouldn’t have taken place. “All I can say is Dick Clark was an incredible person and I was lucky enough to work with him when I first started in the music business. I’m of the opinion that Dick Clark would not have let an artist go through that and he would have been as mortified as I was in real time,” she said.

Carey said the incident had been horrible, but that will not stop her from holding future concerts. “It’s not going to stop me from doing a live event in the future. But it will make me less trusting of using anyone outside of my own team,” she said.

Even though Carey was heavily lambasted on social media because of what happened, the incident also made her appreciate her fans more. “My true fans have been so supportive and I am so appreciative of them and everybody in the media that came out to support me after the fact because it really was an incredible holiday season that turned into a horrible New Year’s Eve,” she said.
