BioWare released a new cinematic trailer for Mass Effect: Andromeda today to celebrate N7 Day. BioWare

Mass Effect: Andromeda didn’t meet the high expectations of many gamers, and developers at BioWare seem keenly aware of player response. Tweets from designer Ian Frazier and producer Michael Gamble suggest commitment to improve.

Even though the game launched in a state that was less than ideal, Frazier has been especially vocal about a continuing to support Andromeda. On several occasions, he vowed to “vigorously support the game to make it better” and offered hints of “strong support of MEA moving forward.” In that sense, anyone who’s concerned BioWare will cut and run on a failed product need not worry. In fact, the game may eventually become more palatable with more time for polish.

With regard to specifics, it was Gamble who was clearest about describing what devotees can expect in Mass Effect: Andromeda’s next big update. In several separate conversations he confirmed fixes related to character banter, resolution, rare crashes, freezes and a whole lot more.

Given these tweets and EA’s own list of documented issues, it would appear Mass Effect: Andromeda’s first major revision will focus primarily on smaller bugs as opposed to front-facing issues like wonky character animations. At best, there may be updates to patch out squadmates teleporting on top of the player and Ryder’s weird “duck walk” animation that’s become a meme over the past few weeks.

The unfortunate reality, however, is that, despite his promise to support Andromeda, even Frazier himself can’t yet reveal when the next update will go live. “We generally don’t announce them in advance,” he said.

Mass Effect: Andromeda launched March 21 to middling review scores and widespread scrutiny of its unpolished day-one state. A commitment to rectify any lingering issues will only make the existing game better.
Mass Effect: Andromeda is available now on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
