There's a new "Mean Girls" clique in town.

Paramount has revealed the lead stars of the upcoming "Mean Girls The Musical" movie to be released under the production company allegedly through the streaming platform Paramount+, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The film is an adaptation of the 2018 Broadway show written by the original "Mean Girls" scriptwriter Tina Fey, which was based on the 2004 movie starring Lindsay Lohan, Lacey Chabert, Amanda Seyfried and Rachel McAdams. The film, which earned $128 million at the global box office, is widely known as a cult teen favorite amongst the younger generation.

According to the outlet, Angourie Rice, Auli'i Cravalho, Jaquel Spivey and Reneé Rapp would be headlining the Broadway musical film adaptation.

Rice, 21, who starred in Netflix's "Senior Year" as the younger version of Rebel Wilson and David Levithan's best-selling novel "Every Day" movie adaption, would portray Cady Heron, originally played by Lohan. While Rapp, 22, who starred as Regina George in the Broadway musical, would reprise the role originally played by McAdams.

"Moana" star Cravalho, 22, and "A Strange Loop" Broadway breakout star Spivey, 24, would be playing Janis and Damien, respectively.

The original "Mean Girls" movie and musical revolved around the teenager Cady, who moved to the suburbs of Illinois from Africa with her scientist parents. Cady was home-schooled throughout her life but would eventually get swept away in the "dynamics" of her new high school's social hierarchy. She then joins the popular clique known as The Plastics. The upcoming movie release would most likely follow the original plot, as per THR.

Lorne Michaels would reportedly produce the movie along with Fey, who would also be writing the movie musical's feature script. Jeff Richmond and Nell Benjamin would be in charge of the music and lyrics, respectively. Samantha Jayne and Arturo Perez Jr. will direct the project.

Fey first announced that the hit musical would be adapted into a movie back in 2020. However, the project was put on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic. According to Elite Daily, Paramount is gearing up for a 2023 release.

"I'm very excited to bring 'Mean Girls' back to the big screen," Fey said in a 2020 statement, according to Variety.

"It's been incredibly gratifying to see how much the movie and the musical have meant to audiences. I've spent sixteen years with these characters now. They are my Marvel Universe, and I love them dearly," she added.
