Before Meghan Markle and Prince Harry announced their engagement, the couple did their best to keep their blossoming relationship under wraps. However, there was a time when Meghan almost made a mistake that could have ruined their private romance.

The couple announced their engagement on Nov. 27, 2017. Months before they confirmed the news, rumors suggested that the two planned on getting married.

At the time, Meghan was still working on the USA network show, “Suits.” During an appearance on KTLA 5, her co-star, Wendell Pierce claimed Meghan’s new security ordered her to take off her character’s engagement ring before she exited a car.

Pierce admitted he heard rumors about the engagement, but didn’t believe Prince Harry and Meghan were getting married until he saw government agents on the set of the show.

“I didn’t think it was happening and then one day, on the set, there was an MI5 guy. There was this MI5 guy on set so I said, ‘well, this must be serious.’ They sent someone over,” he explained.

The extra protection made Pierce realize that Meghan’s life was about to change. “Then one time, we were doing a scene, before they got engaged, where she was engaged with Mike on the show, and they said, ‘wait, don’t get out of the car,’” he revealed.

“They said, ‘give us the ring because there’s a paparazzi down the street. So, we don’t want a photo to go out with the ring.”

Meghan married Prince Harry in May 2018 at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor. The Duchess of Sussex invited several A-listers, as well as, her “Suits” cast members. Meghan has since retired from acting to focus on her royal duties, and most recently, her new role as a mom.

Harry and Meghan welcomed their first child, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, in May 2019. The couple is expected to take their son on his first royal tour in the fall.
