Melania Trump has been regarded as a trophy wife and an arm candy to her husband, President Donald Trump. But “Free, Melania” author Kate Bennett said that this isn’t necessarily the case.

While speaking with the Washington Examiner, Bennett called the different nicknames given to the FLOTUS as a “gross disservice” to her individuality and influence.

“I think she really is a very strong and important voice in Donald Trump's world. That surprises people when I say that, but all of my reporting indicates that that is the truth,” Bennett said.

The author, who followed the first lady for three years, reacted to the speculations that President Trump’s wife is cold and upset about her circumstances. Bennett clarified that Slovenian people are not always smiley or hospitable but this doesn’t mean that Melania is a fake smiler.

“Sometimes it can be a little cringey for us Americans to watch her frown or what looks like a scowl sometimes, but I think it's authenticity. We're not used to seeing that from a political spouse who walks by a camera,” she said.

Bennett said that Melania’s lack of affection is also reflected in her relationship with the POTUS. The couple doesn’t normally use the word “love” when talking about their marriage.

The author said that there’s no denying the fact that President Trump loves his wife, but the FLOTUS doesn’t need her husband’s love for her to be professed in public.

Meanwhile, there are also some rumors suggesting that the Trumps could eventually divorce. In fact, President Trump previously told gossip columnist Liz Smith that his negotiations with Melania have gone smoothly.

Trump said that his wife understands that he needs a prenuptial agreement, and she agreed with him. But only time will tell if the Trumps will really get a divorce.

Bennett said that she’s confident the FLOTUS will stay with her husband because she has faith and religious devotion to their union.
