Nicki Minaj made headlines when she called out Miley Cyrus in front of the entire world during an acceptance speech at the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards. Over a month after their feud went viral, the "Anaconda" singer clarified why she was angry with Cyrus.

Prior to the VMAs, Cyrus spoke to the New York Times in August about Minaj's issue with not being nominated for "Video of the Year," saying it was an issue of race. Cyrus said she didn't respect Minaj's statement because it seems she was making it about her and there was a better way to approach it if she wanted to factor in race.

"But don’t make it just about yourself. Say: 'This is the reason why I think it’s important to be nominated. There’s girls everywhere with this body type,'" Cyrus said.

In an interview with the New York Times Magazine, Minaj said Cyrus had some nerve to be upset about Minaj speaking out against something that affects black women. She believes Cyrus "shouldn't not want to know" about what affects them as people.

"You’re in videos with black men, and you’re bringing out black women on your stages, but you don’t want to know how black women feel about something that’s so important? Come on, you can’t want the good without the bad," Minaj said. "If you want to enjoy our culture and our lifestyle, bond with us, dance with us, have fun with us, twerk with us, rap with us, then you should also want to know what affects us, what is bothering us, what we feel is unfair to us."

On Aug. 30 at the VMAs, Minaj won “Best Hip Hop Video” for “Anaconda.” While on stage she thanked all of her fans and then flipped her attention to Cyrus. "Now back to this b---- that had a lot to say about me the other day in the press. Miley what's good?” she said.

Cyrus responded immediately after, saying, "Hey we're all in this industry. We all do interviews and we all know how they manipulate s---. Nicki, congratu-f-------lations." Cyrus has not made any further public comments about the incident since the night of the VMAs.
