KEY POINTS

  • Miley Cyrus performed for "SNL" from her home
  • She shared a video of her performance online
  • Andrew Watt joined the singer

Miley Cyrus appeared on “Saturday Night Live” to perform Pink Floyd’s 1975 hit song “Wish You Were Here.” She performed the song from home while social distancing and shared the video on social media. The professional look and the high caliber performance have won the singer praise from both critics and fans.

A picture of her performance that Cyrus shared on Instagram shows her sitting close to a fire pit. She wore a black outfit and black gloves while sitting on a chair in front of the microphone. She finished the look with bright red lipstick.

The song was recorded late in the evening. A video Cyrus shared online looks very professional, even though it was recorded at the singer’s home and there are challenges in editing it because of the lockdown. The singer managed to create the right atmosphere with red lights and smoke effects.

Cyrus also shared a motion graph poster of her “SNL” performance online. The poster shows the singer looking away while the fire slowly burns in the background.

Joining Cyrus in recording the song was Andrew Watt, who was at a safe distance away from her to follow the social distancing norms that are currently in place. The presence of Watt as a guitarist is significant because he announced in March that he had been diagnosed with COVID-19. He used an acoustic guitar while recording the song.

Cyrus has also been using her time during lockdown to continue to support social and environmental causes. To mark Earth Day on April 22 she shared a video in which she sang “Wake Up World.” The video shows the various challenges the world faces today like pollution and garbage accumulation.

On May 15, Cyrus will appear on a Facebook live event that will be about live streaming the graduation ceremony. Just as many of the events are now shifting online, the graduating seniors will be celebrating their achievement together with the online event.

Cyrus will be singing her hit song “The Climb” for the 2020 graduation ceremony event, Variety reported. Some of the other celebrities who are supporting the event are Jennifer Garner, Oprah Winfrey, and Lil Nas X.
