  • "Minecraft" players now have the option to experience the Metaverse
  • A project called "NFT Worlds" transforms "Minecraft" into a play-to-earn game
  • "NFT Worlds" is not connected to Mojang or Microsoft

Web3 projects have discovered a faster way to transform the Metaverse into a reality through the 2011 Sandbox game "Minecraft." A new update introduces "NFT Worlds," which provides players access to Web3 features.

Developers identified as @iamarkdev and @Temptranquil, who are both not affiliated with the Redmond-based tech titan Microsoft, have created a blockchain layer on "Minecraft" called "NFT Worlds." This project is built on the game's third-party servers with a Polygon-based overlay.

"NFT Worlds" enables players to access the Web3 features, including an online store where items for "Minecraft" are available. Additionally, it transforms the game into a world similar to "Decentraland."

Users can purchase lands using cryptocurrencies, and since it uses Polygon, a cheap and fast layer two solution for Ethereum, users can avail of lower gas fees. "NFT Worlds" features individual non-fungible tokens (NFTs) that serve as lots.

It also considers itself as the Metaverse. Players can experience a modified "Minecraft" world that they can shape with the blockchain layer. They can also trade items and use ERC-20 token WRLD, priced at 26 cents.

The server's ecosystem is based on the token, and players can also make money while playing. Technically, "NFT Worlds" can be considered as a play-to-earn game.

Non-Fungible Tokens come in different forms, and in this case, the NFTs are the pieces of virtual land. The ecosystem features 10,000 various Worlds with diverse landscapes that players can choose from.

It also offers bigger properties than those offered at "The Sandbox" and "Decentraland." One of its founders, ArkDev, explained its size through a tweet.

"Here's a comparison of the playable size of 1 single NFT World vs. The Sandbox & Decentraland. This is not a joke. If you've ever thought of where to build your Metaverse project or your community's Metaverse, etc.," he said.

"NFT Worlds" provides players a Metaverse experience in an existing game, which is excellent for NFT collectors and "Minecraft" fans. With the game's massive player base consisting of 141 million monthly active users in 2021, "NFT Worlds" has increased interest among players.

More than 26,000 player hours were logged on its test server in three days this February. Moreover, it has seen a sudden spike by 10 ETH or around $26,000 in average price between January and February. This is impressive since "NFT Worlds" remained stagnant for some time.
