Minnie Driver recently fired back at her ex-boyfriend, Matt Damon, over his recent remarks about sexual misconduct and assault.

While speaking with the Guardian, the actress said she’s found it difficult for the men that he dated to understand what assault is like on a daily level.

“I honestly think that until we get on the same page, you can’t tell a woman about their abuse. A man cannot do that. No one can. It is so individual and so personal, it’s galling when a powerful man steps up and starts dictating the terms, whether he intends or not,” she explained.

Last week, Damon sat down for an interview on “Popcorn With Peter Travers” (via E! News) and shared his views on the waves of sexual misconduct allegations in Hollywood. According to Damon, even though it’s great that women are coming forward about their stories, it seems that there is a “spectrum of behavior” going on.

“You know, there’s a difference between, you know, patting someone on the butt and rape or child molestation, right? Both of those behaviors need to be confronted and eradicated without question, but they shouldn’t be conflated, right? We are so energized to get retribution,” he said.

Damon also weighed in on Louis CK’s apology and said that he should be forgiven based on his remorsefulness. The actor also said that he doesn’t think CK would do what he did again.

Following his statements, Driver took her thoughts to Twitter and said that she was surprised Damon would defend CK.

Meanwhile, Driver also said that differentiating various types of abuses is “wrong and bad.” “Until you start seeing it under one umbrella it’s not your job to compartmentalize or judge what is worse and what is not,” she said.

Driver added that women should be the one to speak up right now and men just have to listen. “Let women do the speaking up right now. The time right now is for men just to listen and not have an opinion about it for once,” she said.
