  • The series is the Korean adaptation of the original Spanish heist crime drama "Money Heist"

“Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area” may have ended on a cliffhanger with only six episodes released on June 24, but the heist is not yet over.

It’s expected to return to Netflix with six more episodes for Season 1 before the end of 2022, according to Newsweek. Cast members told the publication that the Part 2 of the first season has been filmed.

The last released episode of “Money Heist: Korea” left viewers wondering whether the Korean adaptation of one of Netflix’s most popular shows, “Money Heist” (or “La Casa De Papel”), would follow the original flow of the Spanish heist crime drama or have an unexpected twist.

So far, the series is “almost faithful” to the original, with similar storylines, scenes and characters. However, it did tackle the ongoing conflict between South Korea and North Korea, giving the series a unique take.

Fans who watched the original series would know that Berlin (played by Pedro Alonso), a fan-favorite character, died during the heist. But in the Korean adaptation, there’s no clear sign if he has a different fate this time around.

The original “Money Heist” was known for its well-written plot, thrilling scenes and phenomenal characters. It dominated the Netflix Top 10 chart worldwide, being the longest survivor of at least 486 days. This was why fans had high hopes for the Korean adaptation. However, “Money Heist: Korea” has received mixed reviews thus far.

According to Sundar Poorvaja of The Hindu, the show was a “slick adaptation,” but it needed more “pizzaz.” The critic hoped that the makers would “push the envelope” for the upcoming episodes.

The series currently has a 5.1 rating on IMDb, an 8.3 rating on My Drama List and an 85% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Despite the show's mixed reviews, fans took to Twitter to praise the Korean remake's cast for their outstanding performance.

“Money Heist Korea made me appreciate the OG scenario (with its several amendments, of course) for the first and probably last time. One thing about the entire production and cast is that they DELIVERED!” read one fan's tweet.

The main cast includes Park Hae-soo, Yoo Ji-tae, Kim Ji-hoon, Jeon Jong-seo, Lee Won-jong, Lee Hyun-woo, Jang Yoon-ju, Lee Gyu-ho and Yunjin Kim.

Netflix has yet to announce the official release date of the second half of "Money Heist: Korea-Joint Economic Area" Season 1, so stay tuned.
