A Kansas Highway Patrol trooper shot at a fleeing motorist who rammed a patrol car on Thursday night.

According to US News, the incident happened after a pickup truck with a stolen license plate refused to stop when a trooper went after him and attempted to apprehend him using tire puncturing devices and tactical maneuvers.

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation said that the driver slammed into the patrol car which prompted the trooper to fire shots.

The driver was taken to a hospital for minor injuries while the trooper was treated at a medical center for possible minor injuries and was consequently placed on leave while the incident is being investigated.
