Hodges and Janey investigate Olivia’s death in next week’s episode of “Mr. Mercedes.”

According to the synopsis for Season 1, episode 3 of the Audience Network series, Hodges (Brendan Gleeson) and Janey (Mary Louise Parker) dig deeper into the circumstances surrounding her sister’s (Ann Cusack) suicide.

In Season 1, episode 1, Pete (Scott Lawrence) revealed to Hodges that Olivia — the owner of the Mercedes-Benz car that Brady (Harry Treadaway) stole and used in the job fair massacre — took her own life after receiving a lot of blame for the mass murder.

Hodges then found out from Janey in Season 1, episode 2 that Olivia had also received letters from the killer prior to her death. Although Janey hasn’t read any of the letters, Janey said that Olivia previously told her that the killer was taunting her that she was partly responsible for the massacre. Janey also pointed out to Hodges that the killer was encouraging Olivia to commit suicide.

Janey revealed that Olivia informed the police about the letters she received from the killer, but the cops said that the letters most likely came from “some nutjob just trying to get attention.” Interested in seeing the letters, Hodges asked Janey if she has them. While Janey isn’t sure whether Olivia kept the letters, Janey told Hodges that all of her sister things, including her computer, are all stored in a warehouse.

While it remains unclear whether Hodges is going to check out Olivia’s warehouse next episode, the trailer for the hour reveals that Hodges will be rushing to the police station to finally tell Pete that the killer has been contacting him.

“This is our guy, 100 percent,” Hodges tells Pete in the promo clip.

But Pete and his fellow detective, Izzy Torres (Nicole Barré), don’t seem convinced by Hodges’ claims.

“Your PC is talking to you?” Izzy asks Hodges.

“No, he is talking to me,” explains the retired detective.

Elsewhere in next week’s episode, Jerome’s (Jharrell Jerome) father intervenes in his relationship with Hodges.

“Mr. Mercedes” Season 1, episode 3, titled “Cloudy, With a Chance of Mayhem,” airs on Wednesday, Aug. 23 at 8 p.m. EDT on Audience Network. Watch the trailer below:
